Weather is one of the important factors impacting a person’s well-being. The effect of weather on mood has been observed since ancient times. In his work, Hippocrates gave examples of the effect of winds on shortness of breath in children.

Research results from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management show that up to 50-70% of people experience symptoms associated with changes in atmospheric factors.

Meteorological elements of greatest importance for human well-being:

  • air temperature
  • precipitation
  • atmospheric pressure
  • wind
  • cloudy

The most common symptoms accompanying factors are: headaches, drowsiness, weakness, muscle and joint pain, mood swings, irritability, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, and fatigue.

The most commonly mentioned factor that has the strongest effect on the human body is atmospheric pressure. Sharp changes in blood pressure are not only unpleasant, but can also affect the health of people suffering from diseases of the circulatory system or respiratory organs.

Special attention should also be paid to air temperature. Being in an environment of high or low temperatures is a test for our heart. The risk of heart attack or stroke increases significantly, especially in older people undergoing treatment for cardiovascular disease.

How to deal with negative meteorological factors?

  1. Avoid excessive exposure to sun or frost, especially during the highest/coldest hours.
  2. Physical activity and fresh air have a positive effect on a person’s mood and health.
  3. Healthy eating is the foundation of a healthy body. In summer, you should be extremely careful about products rich in iron, magnesium, and vitamin B.
  4. A healthy sleep should be taken care of. Go to bed early and rest throughout the day.
  5. Avoid stressful situations. Stress negatively affects the state of the human body, which increases the symptoms of negative atmospheric factors.

Observe changes occurring in the body and react when you notice something alarming. Do not postpone, make an appointment with a doctor. After all, health is the most important thing!
