Long nails – both natural and artificial – have become very fashionable in recent years. Thanks to helium hybrids, many women enjoy original painted and well-groomed nails. Unfortunately, during a coronavirus pandemic, such a palm ornament may increase the risk of developing Covid-19. This is because maintaining hygiene with long nails is much more difficult and troublesome. Learn why it is better to shorten your nails, and how to remove hybrids yourself.

Long nails and coronavirus

The easiest way to get coronavirus is through close contact with an infected person. However, it is no less dangerous to touch your face with unwashed hands. It also turns out that in the current situation, long nails can be a threat. Even if you wash your hands, harmful microbes, including the new coronavirus, can remain under the nails. To get rid of this, the space under the nails should be cleaned for 30 seconds with a brush and soapy water. In addition, it has been proven that the presence of long nails promotes a more frequent touch on the face and even lips. Therefore, experts emphasize that it is much safer to remove artificial nails and cut them for a short time. People who tend to bite their nails should fight this addiction as soon as possible,

How to remove artificial nails yourself?

Visits to beauty salons are not permitted during a coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, removing artificial nails can be a problem. Fortunately, helium hybrids can be easily removed on their own. You will need a hybrid nail polish remover or a regular acetone remover, aluminum foil, a nail file and a wooden stick, as well as cotton pads.

Start removing artificial nails by matting the nail polish with a nail file. Cotton swabs (they can be divided in half) should be soaked with a wash and applied to the nails, and then wrapped with aluminum foil. Each nail should be in this “bandage” for 15 minutes. After this time, the remnants of gel polish should be removed as carefully as possible with a wooden stick. After removal, it is best to smooth the nails with a special file or polishing cubes and lubricate with nail conditioner.

How to care for hand hygiene?

Thorough handwashing is one of the most effective forms of protection against coronavirus. Scientists pay attention to wash their hands with soap and warm water for at least 20–30 seconds. It is important not to skip any part of the hand, as well as to clean the space between the fingers and under the nails. It is also extremely important to avoid touching the face – the virus can enter the body through the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose and eyes. Disinfect also the items that we most often touch – a smartphone, laptop, doorknobs, keys or wallet and documents.
