Everyone likes to wear fresh and fragrant clothes. To achieve the desired effect, softeners are added to the laundry. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that, despite your best efforts, your clothes smell like mildew. If the smell has penetrated the fabric, it should be washed again, although this is not so easy. To avoid musty, it is important to find out the cause of the problem and fix it. In addition, there are a few tricks you should know to remove odors from your clothes.
Where you dry your laundry is important
Mold is caused by moisture that can be present in the room where the laundry is being dried. Therefore, when we hang them out, we must make sure that it has adequate ventilation and heating. When hanging clothes with ties, you should make large distances between them so that they dry evenly.
Do not leave laundry in the washing machine.
Do not leave laundry wet in a closed washing machine for too long. Lack of air access causes the rapid development of mustiness. In this case, the clothes should be washed again. Unfortunately, regular powder and rinse aid will not solve the problem, so add two tablespoons of baking soda to the detergent dispenser.
When the laundry becomes musty after drying
If a musty smell appears after drying the laundry, do not put it back in the washing machine. Sometimes ironing your clothes well is enough. High temperatures can reduce unpleasant odors. You can also sprinkle them with water mixed with vodka or alcohol (in equal proportions). The ideal solution is to create a home freshener for clothes: just add water (up to 3/4 of the volume) to a spray bottle, fill the rest with alcohol (vodka or alcohol) and sprinkle a dozen drops of essential oil: lavender, pine or citrus.
Remember the condition of the washing machine
Sometimes it happens that the source of mustiness is the washing machine, so you need to keep it in perfect condition. To avoid smelling unpleasant from the inside, it is enough not to close the door after you have finished washing. Of course, it is also worth wiping the seals after each wash, and cleaning the washing machine regularly. Check the filter at least once a month and run the program at the maximum rinsing level by adding a liter of alcoholic vinegar to the dispenser.
